Guangzhou has a fairly efficient and rapidly expanding public transportation system.
By Subway
Guangzhou's metro system opened in 1999. The network covers much of the city centre and is growing rapidly outward. The fare ranges from ¥2.00 to ¥12.00. Most of the signs and announcements are also in English. Tickets are bought from vending machines in the stations.
From Guangzhou Railway station, please take Metro Line 2 and transfer to Line 8 at Changgang Station, get off at the Pazhou Station, Exist A. A single ticket charges RMB 5.00.
From Guangzhou East Railway station, please take Metro Line 3 and transfer to Line 8 at Kecun Station, get off at the Pazhou Station, Exit A. A single ticket charges RMB 5.00.
From Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, please take Metro Extension Line 3, and transfer to Line 8 at Kecun Station, get off at the Pazhou Station, Exit A. A single ticket charges RMB 7.00.
By Taxi
This is the most popular way for foreigners to get around, and it is very affordable. The starting charge is ¥7 for the first 2.3 kilometres, or about 1.4 miles. After that is ¥2.6 for each kilometre. The cost may be slightly different, depending on the taxi operators. ¥1 fuel surcharge is now added.
From Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport to Guangzhou International Sourcing Centre by taxi takes about 45 minutes and cost around RMB 160.00 per trip.
It takes about RMB 30.00 from Guangzhou East Railway Station to Guangzhou International Sourcing Centre by taxi, and takes about RMB 50.00 from Guangzhou Railway Station.
By Bus
There is also a comprehensive public bus service that covers Guangzhou from end to end. By far, it is the cheapest way to move around. Bus fares are RMB 1.00 for the older buses and RMB 2.00 for the air-conditioned ones. Foreigners please note that there are not English announcements on the buses.
